The Caxton/idler summary of the Analysts meeting included the statement that 'CDMA is the only wireless technology that is internet capable.' That statement was made after the ADI announcement.

I don't really understand that conference statement about wireless internet access. Isn't it the case that some GSM companies have been offering internet access on some GSM phones for awhile now? I realize it was at 9.6, but they were first; let's not pretend they they're not tough competitors with appealing products. (Don't mean you, Jack, but the editorial us.)

The BT/ATT Alliance announcement, IHT version, included the statement: " -- work toward developing common standards for so-called third generation mobile telephones that are expected to be introduced from the year 2001." That was also after ADI said they'd have answers to GSM's prayers from early 2000

If I understand where you're going with this, it seems you think the ADI chips may provide a way to do all three 3G versions in one chip, and maybe backward compatibility to GSM or CDMA1 to boot, given that you linked it to the fact that it came out after the ADI announcement.

I don't see the connection. ADI talked of dual and triple band phones, but they were talking about variants of existing GSM.
