Of course not. I think, on the other hand, it would be disingenuous to disavow one's religious beliefs when one was engaged in civic discourse, in the hope of not alienating people who might find one's religious beliefs offensive or less than credible.

I like what Luther said, "Hier stehe ich, ich kann nichts anders." ("Here I stand, I can do nothing else," literally, but more accurately "This is what I believe, I am incapable of taking another position."

Luther changed the world, but he was an unusually brave and gifted man.
