It seems to me that Nokia is a threat to Phone.com.

Nokia , Hewlett-Packard in WAP deal
biz.yahoo.com
HELSINKI, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia said on Monday it would cooperate with Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HP - news) to develop mobile Internet solutions using the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP).

''The alliance will enable customers to access e-services over the Internet with mobile handheld devices, such as Nokia media phones,'' it said in a statement.

Nokia said its WAP Server software would be available on both HP-UX(1) and Windows NT operating systems and that Hewlett-Packard would resell the software worldwide.

It said the first HP 9000 Enterprise server to support the WAP Server software would be the L-class entry-level server, also introduced on Monday.

Nokia and Hewlett-Packard would work to optimise the WAP Server on all HP 9000 and HP NetServer platforms.

''Not only will corporations be able to deploy and administer WAP solutions much more easily, but HP will provide one-stop shopping for both hardware and software as well as expert understanding of the security, reliability and scalability concerns that customers have in deploying e-service solutions,'' the company said.

''The first available e-service solution will be a WAP-enabled mail access solution based on HP's OpenMail business messaging solution,'' it added.
