Altho I'd like to believe this, I am not totally convinced. The Elliot Wave theorists, eg nirv.com ,
portray the rally that began on Thursday pm as a bear market rally, or sucker rally, and predict another leg down within the next 10 days.

However, your hypothesis that 1/2 the value of the bull sentiment peak may prove to be valid. We'll test that out, also.
