<Nokia a "threat" to Phone.com?? Not sure how you see that. Nokia uses the WAP standard>
Ellen, this is where I don't know the answer. It seems to me that Nokia makes a server product that competes with Phone.com's Up.Link. Yes, they both have a standard, WAP, but it seems to me that Nokia sales are not good for Phone.com. Maybe there are patent issues where Nokia must pay Phone.com, but still I think it's not as good for Phone.com as a straight sale. Right?
Earlier, it was said that Nokia was a lesser player. Maybe so. Maybe they get better also? Here, they are working with HP in a way that "looks" agressive. Maybe I just don't get it, but it looks like competition.
About 2 months ago, I posted that SBC was using Nokia's server software and at the time it was discounted as a lesser product. But, why should SBC be willing to do that? They are a big player in this business and surely they have to get their ducks in a row well in advance of serious role out of wireless Internet.
Sprint seems to be getting aggressive. I wonder if they are pushing the time tables ahead of expectation?
Anyway, why is Nokia not a threat?
