Toshiba's DVD Boards Tailored For S3 Chips

By

Toshiba Corp.'s first DVD design and evaluation kit for PC OEMs and add-on-card manufacturers is made to work with S3 Inc.'s graphics accelerators, Toshiba said. Future versions will be compatible with other graphics-IC vendors' accelerators, according to the company.

The evaluation kit includes a full-featured DVD decoder board based on Toshiba's DVD chip set, as well as a DVD-ROM drive, a DVD sample disk, software device drivers, and installation manuals.

Toshiba's chip set includes a copy-protection processor, an MPEG-2 video decoder, an NTSC encoder, an AC-3 audio interface, and an audio-output IC.
