here's what I think it is (I'm not a professional tax person, but I do all my own taxes)...

short term gain of $4k for 2000 taxes.
leaps are ST gain too if you close it or expires worthless.

if you're doing a covered call, and your call is assigned, I believe the call $ is treated w/ the same holding period as the underlying... the cboe site has the best docs on this. also, unless sold calls a _qualified_ covered call, it can also do things to your underlyings holding period (suspends or otherwise)... sorry, doing this from memory.
