(GTE) GTE Internetworking Deploys Redback Subscriber Management Systems for One of Nation's Largest DSL Aggregation Services
BUSINESS WIRE - September 21, 1999 08:19
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep 21, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Fast-Growing Implementation Spans 11 States and 20 U.S. Markets

Redback Networks (Nasdaq:RBAK) today announced that GTE Internetworking, a division of GTE (NYSE:GTE), is using Redback's award-winning Subscriber Management Systems(TM) (SMS) in the large-scale nationwide digital subscriber line (DSL) rollout of their aggregation services.

The deployment is part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement between GTE Internetworking and Redback to provide subscriber access to broadband services. Currently, GTE Internetworking has implemented Redback's SMS in more than 20 U.S. markets in 11 states and is slated for further nationwide expansion in 1999.

As one of the nation's leading providers of aggregation services for broadband transport and deployment, GTE Internetworking has built Redback's SMS into points of presence of their new, high-speed, high-capacity, private fiber network, the Global Network Infrastructure (GNI).

With its unique ability to handle more than 8,000 DSL connections at a time, Redback's SMS enables GTE Internetworking to transition DSL service from a provider's Frame Relay or ATM network to the IP layer of the GTE Backbone faster and more efficiently than other subscriber management equipment.

As part of their end-to-end service, GTE Internetworking coordinates all installation and support activities with the local DSL service providers on the customer's behalf
