IMO, the SEC has always been the powerhouses' advocate and, together, have to the best of their abilities control the business. I am certain we will hear a lot more criticism from Levitt and more investigations will be conducted from the SEC concerning online brokerage and day-trading.
I bet much of the criticism originates from the traditional powerhouses themselves who feel they must retain control at any cost and fear may be the best tool available to help them achieve just that.
I think with all the changes coming up and the controversies they generate, this thread will become more active.
