I just discovered after reading the wireless section in yesterday's WSJ that broadband internet will use the same system as my wireless cable service from BellSouth. This has a few pecadillos like occasional skips in the picture. Also a friend's service became impossible when leaves grews on the tree between his antenna and the host antenna downtown. And BellSouth is trying their wireless cable in New Orleans, Jacksonville, and Miami because there are no hills in the line of sight. But so far they only have one antenna in New Orleans on a downtown skyscraper. I guess additional antennae are too expensive. And hilly towns would require multiple antennae.

The wireless section mentioned that BellSouth might offer wireless internet access at a later date. And BellSouth was quoted as saying this was a difficult technology to master.

But the picture and sound are fantastic and cheaper than Cox Cable.
