... that anyone who shorted back in June has a paper profit. I think we all know that.

But the shorting in June was insufficient to drive the price down. Whereas the shorting and selling in late July and August drove the price way down. The questions are what are the naked short positions and the average sale price for these sales?

Well, for the average sale price, just take a look at the 50 DMA, and you'll see my estimate of 5.30-5.40 is much closer than your estimate of 6.50-7.00. I actually keep a spreadsheet of the prices since the July 27th activation of the floorless, and the average price since then is 5.36. The sellers who have been selling since the activation of the floorless have sold at that average price.

Incidentally the short interest report is due out Friday. Here is a link for a site from NASDAQ (scroll down about two screens to the FAQ on short interest reports:

My guess is Friday's report will show over 3.0 million short interest for VLNC.
