What agency does Ameritrade use? Their adds are the best, and certainly got everyone talking about them. I don't know how many people they were able to bring in because of their adds, but I would guess quite a few, or they wouldn't continue spending the money.
What did happen to CNET?

The agency? Dunno, I think you have to read Ad age to find out those things. But one thing about Ameritrade... they have 2 sets of ads, one is the irreverent 'Stuart/Mr.B' ad I mentioned, but the other one which is also great is a softer sell with a middle age guy polishing his boat in front of a big house talking about online trading. They were going after an older audience with that and its a nice ad. So they hit both markets, pretty good.

Cnet - I'm not sure, my sense is they were always an also-ran in many ways with no unique offerings. Also, I think they designed themselves as a portal vs. the Gnet example of a collection of sites. No-content portals were all the rage last year but not now. Some of the portals like yahoo added content but cnet never did. Once you find a site you like, who needs a portal? You just bookmark the site and thats it... the gnet home page is nice but not the cornerstone of gnet... imo
