Hmmm, nice rumor, I'll cheer louder than anyone if its announced, but it doesn't make sense to me, simply because IBM has been 100% MR for some years now, and KM is only commercially proven last we knew, the 10K a month ago, is with TFI, which IBM doesn't even make anymore. So a MR announcement to me seems premature, but maybe things have changed, but then wouldn't they have had to announce that in a new secondary offering prospectus since its a material change in circumstances? I cant' of course be 100% sure, but it seems to me this is not so- but hey, I sure hope I'm wrong on this one!
WD is hoped and expected for because its 100% TFI still, and thus the biggest and best beneficiary of a KM announcement of anyone. I don't put a lot of stock in their CEO not knowing of KM on CNBC some time back, because obviously their engineers know about KM and have even written white papers presented at conferences on the benefits of KM.
As to IBM's position, they're no small potatoes. they're a full 10% of the worldwide HDD market, I think 4th in size in the world behind Seagate, Quantum and WD, but they use all their head and media production capabilities internally. They'd like to sell to others, but to my knowledge just don't have the capacity yet.
Very interesting rumor, doesnt make full sense to me, but sure hope I'm wrong!! Also, would seem the Mitsu lawsuit should be settled this month, 1Q earnings should be out later in the month based on past experience of getting the #'s in teh 20's of the month, and of course it should be a 10M+, maybe 20M or so, doosy!
Nice to see AXC bounce of at least some support level, even if its a lowly, stupidly priced 5 3/4. At this time, I'm just glad we didn't have to wait for an 1/8 for strong support!
Just remember, we also had advance rumor of Maxtor's signing, so this could be the real thing thats floating around. |
