Market Makers can "SHORT"

I know that Market Makers can short, I may be wrong about analysts. Here is a paragraph from the Feb 18 "Buy Recommendation"

"Note "a" -- During the past three years, Oscar Gruss & Son Incorporated has performed investment banking services
for World Heart Corp., and currently makes a market in this security and may have a long or short position in
connection with this activity. "
