Jon,
Do you really want the meaning of life? The answer is in a person...Jesus Christ. It's that simple. Really is! King Solomon had everything (wine, women, song, houses, lands, health and whatever) and after contemplating it all, stated that "All is vanity". You see, he didn't have peace.
Jesus says, "I am the life, the truth, the way..." In the book of Mathew, he also says to all who would dare to follow: "Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and LEARN of me and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light." Isn't 'rest' what we all want?
That's the answer to life in a nutshell. There is an empty void in every person's life until he or she finds Christ. We drink, we party, we strive to be super successful and ..... we're miserable!!! God has purposely designed it that way so that we would come to the end of ourselves and seek for our saviour. That saviour has been given.
When Christ entered the world, a multitude in heaven proclaimed, "Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
You see, God's will towards mankind is one of peace and goodness. He loves us and wants us to find rest and meaning, but that only comes through having a relationship with Him. Jesus is the one through whom we can have that.
And yes, once you do that, you will find yourself helping the poor, feeding the hungry and so on because your life will truly have meaning. Peace. |
