Runner, the mango pickle is an aside that has taken on a life of its own.

A couple of months ago I made the mistake <g> of telling the board that I practice JIT grocery shopping--I go to the Safeway meal by meal. Later when the board was discussing how much food to store for Y2K, I said that I thought most people had a few weeks of food stored even if it wasn't planned. Bearcub challenged me to inventory my pantry to see how long someone with my shopping habits could last in a crisis and it came out at 32 days. In the course of reporting my results, I added as an aside that my stores included 3 jars of mango pickle. It's become something of a touchstone between daffodil and me.

For anyone who might be interested, I use the mango pickle in making carrot curry. I found the recipe many years ago in the Small Planet cook book. You can't buy it at the Safeway. Over the years, I've had to change brands a number of times because the little ethnic grocery stores tend to come and go so the supply is not reliable--hence my three jars, all different brands.

Now aren't you glad you asked?? <g>
