JMD: Are the footprints of the three significantly overlapped? If not, all you get is the same coverage capacity in a given area. The build out will not be increased just because we now have a huge entity trying to manage growth all over the US.

If the coverage in an area is overlapped, you can get some increased capacity and thus less dropped calls, but you are not going to be able to reallocate much currently installed infrastructure. Base stations and tower capacity do not lend themselves to being pulled up and moved over a mile or two to fill a hole in coverage.

I think three competitors all vying for market share is better for total CDMA sells than one big concern who has to spread the available money and time over the entire US. Sure VODABAM will put out some big contracts, but the dollar value will be less than GTE,VODA, BAM and Prime Co. would have done on their own.

I would rather see five people in a pie eating contest, rather than three.
