Wednesday September 22, 7:59 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Bentley College Selects Cabletron Systems to Power Campus Network and Partner in Technology Education Partnership Includes Training, Internships, and Computer Laboratory Development ROCHESTER, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1999--Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS - news) today announced that Bentley College, among the largest business schools in New England, has selected Cabletron as its strategic supplier of networking solutions. In addition, Cabletron and Bentley have formed a unique partnership to provide technical training to Bentley students and faculty.
Cabletron's networking solutions will provide a powerful campus-wide communications infrastructure using both wired and wireless technologies. The solution includes Cabletron's ATM SmartSwitches for the network backbone, and 100 Mbps access for every student living in on-campus residence halls (''port-per-pillow''). Bentley also plans to pilot Cabletron's RoamAbout(TM) wireless solutions, allowing faculty and staff to travel anywhere on campus with high-speed network connectivity from laptop computers.
The partnership, which begins this month, includes the following components:
Internships for Bentley students at Cabletron's New England locations; Technical training for Bentley faculty members through the Cabletron University program; A seat on Bentley's technology advisory board to be occupied by Mike Skubisz, Cabletron's Executive Vice President of Software; and Cabletron's involvement in the development of Bentley's on-campus Computer Information Systems laboratory. Cabletron was selected as Bentley's strategic networking supplier based on the company's service and support, the scalability and manageability of its solutions, and its migration path to virtual networks (VLAN) and directory-enabled networking (DEN).
''Every aspect of the economy is transformed by the information age, whether its online trading changing the behavior of financial markets or software companies shifting towards distributing their product over the Internet,'' said Joseph Morone, president of Bentley College. ''We need a high-bandwidth infrastructure to support our efforts - that's why our partnership with Cabletron is so important.''
Cabletron's solutions will provide a network infrastructure that enables Bentley to utilize advanced applications such as SAP(TM) R/3® and web-based distance learning, bringing the benefits of ''real world'' technology into its classrooms.
This technology-based learning is part of Bentley's Information Age MBA, a new program that tightly integrates Information Technology (IT) and business education.
''Cabletron is proud to partner with a leading institution like Bentley College,'' said Bob Anderson, Cabletron's director of enterprise solutions marketing. ''This type of project demonstrates the growing relationship between technology, business and education, and the overall impact of technology on our daily lives.''
