Your question was, do handguns serve a purpose. The answer to that is protection. The constitutional right to bear arms is being slowly stripped from us by the government that you are supporting in the action of getting rid of. The us military has already passed out a questionaire asking if they would requested to fire on civilians, would they do it. And you dont think you need protection? Let me not sound paranoid here, but who is it at the end of their barrel? be careful, it might be you. If you want to go into background checks and other ways of regulation, that is fine. But dont take my freedom to own one for recreation and protection. When your getting mugged, your wife is getting raped or murdered, or your house is being robbed, aren't you glad that I possibly am living in your area, and have the ability to help you. Remember that a gun never killed a person. People kill people. And if you take the guns out of my hands, then the criminals are the only one left with them. A can of mace against a bullet will lose every time.
