INFOWAVE SOFTWARE INC - GLENAYRE TECHNOLOGIES INC - Glenayre and Infowave Launch Symmetry Client Software At PCS'99 Expo in New Orleans [51]

Canadian Market News from Market News Publishing, Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at 09:03

Glenayre Technologies Inc. and Infowave Software, Inc. announced the
launch of Symmetry(TM), innovative PC intelligent agent software that
connects wireless devices to Microsoft Outlook(TM). Glenayre and Infowave
jointly developed this intelligent software that allows users to wirelessly
extend their desktop. The product was officially launched at the PCS'99
Expo in New Orleans where Infowave is exhibiting as part of Glenayre's show
presence. Glenayre will be Infowave's exclusive distributor for the
Symmetry software package to the paging industry and will also market it to
the PCS marketplace.
Symmetry (designated development code name Kodiak) runs on a user's PC
and allows their wireless device to access and interact with, the personal
information in their desktop MS Outlook. E-mail, schedules, meeting
reminders, task lists and contact lists can be forwarded to their pager or
mobile phone. Symmetry works with a wide range of existing devices
including one-way and two-way pagers, and PCS or GSM phones. With two-way
capability users can initiate mobile originated requests to query personal
information within Outlook from their two-way pager or PCS or GSM phone.
Eric Doggett, Glenayre's president and chief executive officer, stated,
"With the PCS '99 Expo, we have launched the new Glenayre, leveraging our
core competencies in wireless data devices and networks, unified messaging,
enhanced services, and partnering to deliver operators and consumers
Solutions for an @ctive World(TM). This end-to-end solution is a great
example of our new corporate synergies, providing individuals, small/home
offices, and large enterprises constant connectivity and synchronization to
their desktops and the Internet."
"Infowave's greatest strength is that it connects the mobile
professional with their important corporate data," said Jim McIntosh,
Infowave's president and chief executive officer. "With Symmetry, millions
of paging and PCS subscribers can have this important ability without
buying any new equipment. Symmetry is a great leap forward in personal
productivity and connectivity."
"Glenayre's customers, who represent many of the world's top paging
companies, will be able to offer significant new value to their
subscribers," stated Lee Ellison, senior vice president of business
development at Glenayre. "Now they can be wirelessly connected to their
personal desktop Outlook information. Active workers have the freedom to
leave their desks without missing important e-mail or scheduling changes.
Ellison added, "We are very pleased to launch this product at PCS '99,
and to bring this solution to market so quickly. Symmetry also will
complement our enhanced services strategy for the PCS market."
Symmetry is extremely easy to install and use. An intelligent, on-line
installation guide leads the user though the complete configuration
process, by asking questions tailored to the user's particular device. Once
it's set up, the user never has to think about it again.
An extremely useful and unique feature is the 'screensaver' feature
that automatically activates Symmetry when the user has not used their
computer for a specified amount of time. Symmetry can also be turned on and
off remotely, directly from the user's device.
"We designed Symmetry to be set and forget software," stated Jeff Gort,
product manager at Infowave. "Once the user runs the installation guide,
Symmetry runs unobtrusively in the background and manages all wireless
activity with the device. And it's extremely easy to use. Basically, if you
know how to use Outlook(TM), you know how to use Symmetry. It's that
seamless."
