Have they no shame? Are you kidding? If it isn't illegal and it makes them money, they will do it. . . .if it IS illegal and it makes them money, they will try it. This is why I am skeptical on many up/downgrades. . .

Think of the motivation of the brokerage analyst. If he calls it correctly, is he considered BETTER than the next by the firm that employs him? Probably not. What the brokerage firm really wants is the one analyst that makes them the most money.

Ever see a ratings score of analysts based on accuracy? That would be a joke. The whole analyst process makes no sense. Nobody chooses their broker based on the accuracy of their analysis anymore. So there is little incentive to get it right. Whereas, calling a stock down, so that the brokerage can buy a few million shares. . . now THAT makes sense. Upgrading and going on CNBC to tout a stock, so that the brokerage can dump. . . .now THAT is profitable for the brokerage.

And that is why I have been outspoken against this process. . . and for the past year have said that WE INDIVIDUAL INVESTORS ARE THE NEW ANALYSTS. We examine and analyze companies for the sole purpose of determining whether it is worth investing our personal hard earned money. And for that reason. . .we cannot afford to get it wrong.

Discussions

And that is why I take the discussion on these boards so seriously. . .and why I get so annoyed when hacks show up to disrupt our flow . . .or derail our momentum. The new site is designed with the primary focus on staying ON-TOPIC in discussions. . .and having various topics. . . .imagine if on the side of this board, we could start a conference on Online brokerages, then start sub-topics on earnings reports and valuations. . .and another topic featuring the up and comers. . .while still another discusses regional banks offering online trading as a value added service to their customers and how that could affect the future of online brokering. Our understanding of online brokerages would substantially improve.

This way, a particular news item or post about online brokerages could literally be filed under the appropriate topics. . .yet still show up as a new post. . . and can be sent via email or newsgroups to those behind firewalls. . . and likewise posts can be made to those boards via email [this is by popular demand from the many lurkers we have here with full-time employment. . and sitting behind corporate firewalls]

You could literally keep up with the board via one of those new fangled cellular phones that post email. . .and if there is a way to send email from those. . .you could respond directly to the board. . . .as soon as we get the specification on Windows CE, the entire site will be made ready for it. . . so wearable PCs can accesss.

We will be running JAVA and JAVA script. . .so Netscape Navigator 4.0 will be a minimum browser version. [Don't forget to send me your email addresses to Rande@writeme.com, so I can contact you on news of the new site]

So much going on behind the scenes. . . I'll be leaving again today for meetings all afternoon. . . but hang in there and keep this ball rolling.
