Heinz, It was interesting to me to read yesterday that L. Summers stated that a strong dollar is in the best interests of the US, but he refused to comment on it further or say what the strategy would be to maintain a strong dollar. What I am wondering is what policy instrument they think they have to keep the dollar strong, other than interest rates? Generally, we would think that higher interest rates would help maintain the value of the dollar. But, higher interest rates could also "tank" the stock market and hasten the flight of capital. So, what's a guy to do? No wonder he didn't want to talk about it. These policy guys have gotten themselves into quite a pickle, it seems to me. I'm not sure there is much they can do, but on balance I think that higher interest rates will be pursued, but not with a vengeance.

Cheers!
