more news on CUBE.

this was just confirmed through the wire. westell has selected NUKOS communications to provide digital video codec system (MPEG-2) on its ADSL related services.

to my knowledge, nukos and cube have development and royalty contracts concerning core MPEG-2 DBS technology. currently cube has monopoly control in mpeg-2 coding. i believe nukos is using cube's CLM4700 Broadcast MPEG-2 encoders on their encoding system.

currently, cube has new broadcast MPEG-2 encoder under development. release should come before 3Q 1996.

this development should discourage any theory that AT&T will take over cube's broadcast market in the short-run.
