Jim: I'd ignore the stockholders equity because if the co goes down it is really useless...but as I thought, the cash is impresseive. Presuming the co has a mediocre breakeven quarter, the cash hoard should be preserved, unless they really ramped up their R&D. If the cash hoard is preserved, then they will have about $1.50/sh in cash as you correctly pointed out. This means that the stock can be bought today for nothing...since a buyer is getting $1.50 in cash for every $1.50 that is paid for the stock.
If I wait until they report earnings in the next three weeks or so I'll have a better idea which way the co is heading...but if the news is good, the stock will pop before I get a chance to jump in.
So...I'm not waiting..I'll buy some now. The downside risk is small compared to the upside potential. If the earnings are good, I'll buy more and average. What do you think...good strategy?
