The ASWX news -

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1999--

HP and Active Software Announce ActiveWorks Integration System as Integration Platform for Changengine Active Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASWX), a leading provider of eBusiness integration software, and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP), provider of HP Changengine business-process
management system, today announced an alliance to offer cross-application process-management solutions. By integrating Active Software's ActiveWorks(TM) Integration
System with HP's Changengine, the two companies will deliver business-process solutions that span application boundaries, thereby helping customers better automate and manage their day-to-day eBusiness operations.

HP and Active Software will develop a Changengine adapter that will provide the connection between Changengine and ActiveWorks, equipping customers with a comprehensive Enterprise Integration (EI) solution. The combined EI solution will create a seamless flow of information between Changengine business processes and the broad scope of applications the ActiveWorks platform supports, including SAP R/3, PeopleSoft, Siebel, Clarify, Vantive and Kenan.
"Companies across all industries are realizing that they need to deploy business-process solutions that cross application boundaries if they are to reduce operational costs, deliver better customer service and accelerate time-to-market for services and programs," said John Morrell, director, Business Development, Active Software. "The Changengine and ActiveWorks solution enables customers to quickly design and implement a flexible system for business-process management that is integrated with the various applications that reside within and outside the enterprise."

The HP Changengine and Active Software Solution, The META Group estimates that the average Fortune 1000 company maintains 49 distinct enterprise applications and spends from one-quarter to one-third of its total IT budget on integration-related efforts. By integrating disparate applications with ActiveWorks, information can be quickly and cost-effectively delivered to Changengine and then transferred to multiple applications to manage the business processes.

For example, most organizations today have extensive support programs to ensure customer success. The support cycle within an organization can be viewed as a business process because it typically involves sharing information stored in multiple front- and back-office applications. Using the HP Changengine and Active Software solution, the entire business process can be managed and optimized across the enterprise. Additionally, once a process has been defined
and deployed in the system, it must be flexible and adaptable to meet changing organizational needs. Using the HP Changengine and Active Software solution, the process can be modified easily and re-deployed quickly.

"Our alliance with Active Software reinforces our commitment to providing customers a complete process-management solution that is dynamic and can leverage their existing enterprise application investments," said Mike Shaw, worldwide product marketing manager, for Changengine, at HP's Communication Industry Business Unit. "Implementing process management solutions based on ActiveWorks will allow our customers to react to and rapidly embrace changes in their businesses with minimum impact on their IT systems."

"We chose Active Software because of the speed with which they can integrate existing applications," said Shaw. "This speed is tied to the number of pre-built adapters they support and the development environment Active Software provides for creating new adapters. Theseattributes fit well with what we are trying to achieve with Changengine -- fast creation ofprocess-based solutions."

The ActiveWorks Integration System allows customers to seamlessly integrate the packaged, custom, Internet, database and legacy applications that implement their ission-critical business processes across and beyond their enterprise. ActiveWorks supports specific eBusiness integration solutions for major markets, such as telecommunications, ERP, customer service and e-commerce, in addition to providing a platform to solve the general integration challenge.

HP Changengine enterprise process management is based on HP technology that enablesautomation and management of business processes across applications and organizations, within
and beyond the enterprise. HP Changengine enables enterprise users and business partners to adapt to changing business demands by dynamically modifying business processes, independent of underlying applications and technologies, providing real-time management of the business
environment.
