Five years ago the figure would have been zero. This follows studies on tuberculosis where patients fail to take their medicines over the time period required to eradicate the bacteria or virus and contribute to its later drug-resistant strain. And then if that is not enough, Medicare HMOs will no longer provide free drug coverage. Co-payments will be 21% on brand-names and 8% on generics.
