"3Com Posts Higher Q1 EPS; SG Cowen Raises Estimates"

Wednesday September 22, 1999 (12:37 pm ET)

NEW YORK, Sep. 22 (Standard & Poor's) - 3Com Corp
(COMS 29 3/8 -1/32) posted Q1 EPS from operations of $0.33
versus $0.24 despite slightly lower sales. SG Cowen raised
EPS estimates for the company.

Analyst Chris Stix told S&P MarketScope COMS did an
enviable job of generating cash and improving margins. He
believes with days sales outstanding where they are, the
company can continue on this path. Stix raised his $1.20 fiscal
2000 (May) EPS estimate to $1.35 and his $1.50 fiscal 2001
to $1.55, noting that his previous estimates were already above
consensus.

The analyst reiterated his buy recommendation and has a $35
12-month price target.
