Half of what? You are comparing a mobile satellite link which brilliantly attains 75% of the current 9.6kbit rate of GSM. Since Globalstar appeals to those who have nothing (or are faced with roaming that doesn't), its a godsend. cdg.org The world will march on. But, are you confident it will be to the wishes of IDC?
