Not too sure about that - when I first asked Mr. K how he knew where the satellite was, he said that it was the only place that you can cover the whole USA from

Now a flash from the world of science. There is a single orbit where the rotation time of the satellite happens to exactly match the earth's spin - this is known as the geosynchronous orbit since satellites appear to "hang in the sky" without moving. Current technology lets us place about 200 satellites in this orbit. The spots that are visible from the US and Europe are of course the hottest. About 50 are viewable from both the US and Europe - many of these are used by telecommunications birds.

Not all the slots are used by any means but it is getting crowded in the geosynchronous orbit. None the less, I can site 6 different TV birds from my house, and there are probably more that I just don't know about. Not every provider has feeds from every bird obviously but most have at least 2.
