I am sorry I have not responded to the flurry of responses to my thread. I have not had much time and I have found myself reading them during the time in which I could respond. In response to a rash comment made on the part of one of the earlier responders, no, I don't have an exact opinion on gun control. I wrote this from a point of view, I felt that would elicit true responses so that I could put together something for myself. Why anyone should want to kill me for voicing any views, my own or not, is rather disturbing as this is a speak out board for the most part. I thank those of you who have given me a well written, thought out and mildly intelligent response. As opposed to, let me think, "You're sick, get help"

This thread gives people a chance to place their views and to see what other people have to say. However, I notice that the anti-gun control responders seem to be rather overpowering and insulting in their remarks. Not everyone, but a large majority. If you really want to have a true moderated discussion, try opening up to some alternate viewpoints, instead of badgering those people who try to voice them. And to the response that cars kill more people than handguns, yes, that's true. However, with the exception of a few which have been mentioned, I admit I don't know much about handgun hunting, cars aren't designed to wound people. They are meant for transportation and the fact that that many people are killed by cars every year suggests that people shouldn't be supplied with a weapon designed for that purpose. Once again, with respect to hunting handguns or ones for target shooting.
One random point, please, if you own a gun, don't just hide it, lock it, in a cabinet, lock being the operative word. Even if it takes your child 5 years to find it, that time will be moot.

Oh yes, and by the way, if you're wondering why I chose to write this from the anti-gun point of view rather than a pro is that I saw my friend's head get mutilated by a bullet when it was no more than 2 feet from mine as a stray bullet from a fight up the street reached us.
One last point, in response to my following the current president and his ideals, I do not trust, nor respect the U.S. Government. It is the most roundabout political body in the world and struggles to get anything of great importance done. |
