Hi Rudedog - Re: Compaq reverses plans for Unix on Intel chips....

I really do not see this as a negative as long as CPQ has a backup plan to generate sales for those users that demand the Intel 64-bit platform. This is where I believe CPQ's Linux program will come into play.

CPQ will still be able to migrate those customers to high end Alpha servers even though these users may install new 64-bit Intel machines AS LONG AS the OS is LINUX or SOLARIS. CPQ's service division must be able to connect all these machines together if they want to sell enterprise raid storage systems. The common thread is the network OS and how CPQ helps the client manage these enterprise networks. LINUX may be the OS of choice for these new Intel 64-bit machines, perhaps MS 2000 will also grab a large market share. It really does not matter, as long CPQ can address the enterprise network management systems.

What's your take on CPQ's current and future (planned or under development) position to service these growing enterprise networks? (They will not be doing it with Intel 64-bit machines.)
