In theory each Rambus channel supports 32 rdram chips and at 128 Mbit per chip the theoretical limit is 512 MByte. However, the mobos that I've seen only have two RIMM slots so only 256 MByte is allowed. I've heard that quite a long time ago everyone gave up on 32 chips for electrical reasons and tried to make 24 chips work. Maybe the actual fact is that people have now limited it to 16 chips and 256 MByte max memory.
