News Release today. Nice volume, building a good base here.

ACTIVE ASSETS RETAINS INTERNET
STRATEGIST TOD MAFFIN

VANCOUVER - Noted Internet strategist Tod Maffin has been retained by Active
Assets & Associates Inc. (VSE: AAA) to assist the company with its entry
into the e-commerce auction market.

Maffin has been working with the principals of Active Assets over the past
three months and has completed a research paper on the company's Internet
strategy, which is centred around the creation of a highly-sophisticated
business-to-business web site (http://www.activeassets.com) that will
facilitate live and on-line auctions and liquidations of corporate assets.

He will continue to consult with the company's technical and on-line
marketing teams as the web site is readied for activation.

"Many e-commerce business models today are built around consumer
applications like catalogued merchandise," said Maffin. "But the real
potential is in transactions between businesses - everything from sourcing
spare automotive parts or cutting procurement times to hosting full
electronic marketplaces."

Forrester Research projects business-to-business e-commerce will eclipse the
$1 trillion mark by 2003.

Tod Maffin is "one of Canada's most influential futurists" according to the
Globe and Mail's Report on Business magazine.

He is frequently called upon to offer his insights on computing and the
Internet to media organizations such as The National Post, The Globe & Mail,
The Vancouver Sun, Business in Vancouver, CTV National News, The Wall Street
Journal and NBC News.

Maffin is the founder and president of InvestorTrack.com, a
subscription-based Internet service for the retail and institutional
investment community. He also edits The Future File, a web site and
twice-monthly newsletter followed closely by more than 20,000 readers,
including national business writers, investors and senior managers in the
information technology field.
