Last night I caught an X Files rerun in which Mulder and Scully investigated a bunch of sudden, apparently unrelated killing sprees. The cause of the strange behavior turned out to be secret messages hidden in the vertical blanking interval (VBI--the unused air time between television picture frames in an analog TV signal).

Two days earlier I would have thought, "What a crazy conspiracy theory crock." What I thought at the time was, "Neat! I just bought a company that does that!"

I now propose a new source of revenue for Gemstar: encoded messages saying, "BUY GMST! BUY GMST! BUY GMST!" They could even rent the space to other gorillas if they wanted...

Somewhat more seriously, I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but thanks to all of you, I now have too many really good companies to invest in. The GG approach is great for stockpicking, but for it to be a truly comprehensive approach to investing, we need to supplement it with a theory of portfolio management....
