LightChip Appoints William Emkey VP of Product
Marketing

SALEM, N.H., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- LightChip, Inc., announced
today the appointment of William Emkey as Vice President of Product
Marketing, reporting to LightChip's President and Chief Executive Officer,
Bill Peck.

Bill Emkey joins LightChip after 20 years at AT&T Bell Labs and Lucent
Technologies, where he was most recently a Marketing Manager in the
Microelectronics Division. In this capacity, Bill was responsible for the global
market development and marketing operations for Lucent's optoelectronic
products sold into the video/broadband equipment industry. Previously, he
was the Technical Manager for the development of linear laser modules and
passive optical components.

Bill has been awarded Bell Laboratories' Distinguished
Member of Technical Staff award and has an extensive list of publications
and patents in the fiber optic arena.

"We are excited about having Bill lead our product definition and marketing
activities as LightChip transitions from technology development to product
shipments," says Bill Peck. "His extensive technical and product marketing
experience brings great depth to our team at a critical phase of the
company's growth."

LightChip was formed in September 1997 to develop a new generation of
optical networking systems with particular focus on metro and access-level
applications. It closed its first round funding, led by AT&T Ventures and
LightPath Technologies (Nasdaq: LPTHA) in September 1998. The
company is located in Salem, New Hampshire.
