Handspring!

Handspring is far from being the first company to develop a device that can attach different adapter cards to its devise for the purpose of making it multifaceted. The Franklin company developed a pretty versatile devise 5 years ago that was an English dictionary, Bible, Electronic book and numerous other things. Handspring has taken this one step further, but adding different devises to their PDA is contrary to everything that has made the Palm a success. The Palm became a success story for two main reasons, ease of use and reliability. The same two reasons that have caused the demise of Window CE and its unfortunate followers.

Once the novelty of Handspring is over, it will be interesting to see how the company fares with respect to COMS. Steve Jobs left Apple and went on to build Next computers, witch was quite a novelty for its time, even the venerable Ross Perot poured $10+ million into this venture to no avail. Well, the venture faded away into the annuls of history. I have a feeling the same will happen to Handspring. Besides, Handspring is another Licensee of the PalmOS, which will make the Palm's OS more pervasive and more difficult for Sir William Gates to emulate.
