David, concerning a stock split, you ask "Why should it be worth more to a reasonable person?" Well, that quite simple- most investors are not reasonable!!!. Listen, I agree with you, in concept. The fact of the matter is a stock split DOES move a stock-period. Remember, if a person has $5,000 to invest if the stock trade at $100, he can only get 50 shares. Now that it split and it trades at $50, he can get 100 shares!! Twice as many shares. Doesn't that sound good to you? It's suddenly affordable! To many, many people, investing is more of an emotional decision than anything else.
