"Diversification is protection against ignorance. It is of little value to those who know what they are doing." -Warren Buffet

Joel,
WB, tha greatest investor of all time IMO, made the bulk of his fortune with large bets in several companies. He did not own a portfolio of hundreds as mutual fund managers would like you to believe you need
If you can find one firm whose prospects you believe in, why not put everything in it? Warren has also said the same thing. I don't know about you, but when it comes to taking lessons on investing, my ears are open to WB and not the MM's who consistently underperform the major averages and then have the audacity to tell us that we need the "diversification" that only they can provide. Remember, it is in their (the MM's) best interests to scare individual investors and get them chanting in unison Diversification-Diversification. It is, IMO again, one of the greatest scams ever wrought on the investing public. If you look at the performance of some of the 20% or so of funds who have beaten the S&P in the past two years, you'll find many of them have taken sizable positions to do so. To generate above-average returns you need to deviate from generally acccepted investing logic(ie diversification) Just my .02

Brian K
BTW, my entire protfolio consists of 6 stocks with the top two 85% of my portfolio. Diversi-what??
