Glenayre Announces X.7 Software for MVP Enhanced Services Platform; Enabling Release Key to Messaging for Next Millennium
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: GEMS - news) today announced the general availability of the X.7 software release for Glenayre's MVP® modular voice processing system. Through Glenayre's X.7 release, network operators will be able to profit from the burgeoning demand for two advanced enhanced services -- Unified Messaging and Voice Navigation. Release X.7 also provides important Year 2000 software readiness.

X.7 Highlights
Unified Messaging Support -- This feature provides the Unified Messaging client with the ability to record and play back voice messages over the Web. Additionally, it provides a path for the MVP unified messaging server to mark messages to be played on a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled phone.
Voice Mail Navigation Support -- This enables basic mailbox functions, such as message playback and disposition, greeting management, message origination, call origination (Voice Activated Dialing) and addressing, are voice activated. The current Voice Activated Dialing Personal Directory is expanded to hold both contact numbers and voice mail addresses. Voice Mail Navigation provides a hands-free solution and services as an enabling technology, allowing service providers to expand their premium feature offerings while maintaining ease of use.
Year 2000 readiness -- Release X.7 is Y2K ready; no patch is required. The X.7 software release will produce no material errors processing data containing dates in connection with the year change from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000, when used according to the recommendations in the X.7 Glenayre product guide.
