I suspect the jump in gas rigs reflects the fact that gas has to be found locally whereas oil can be imported If you are considering drilling for oil ... and if you know OPEC can turn on the spigot and let around 7mm bbls onto the market if they so choose ... the risk of problems in the oil market seem much bigger.
