If you refer to my previous posts you'll see I've stated my opinion on that: StarOffice is a tactic; StarPortal is strategic.

However, I don't think your scenario holds water. Remember you called my last post a "THEORY"? You chastised me for pretending to know what will happen a few years out, let alone 6 mos. Well when you say "suppose msft in two or three years has etc. etc. milliion people" and "by the time bandwidth arrives msft will have responded", I don't think that will be the situation. Don't forget bandwidth already exists in enterprises...no need to wait for it there to install portals. If Sun can start selling (to enterprises) functional intranet portals with complete solutions including both off-the-shelf office services, pre-built apps, and tools (e.g., Forte &c) for developing their own enterprise-specific internal web infrastructures, and do so in early-mid 2000 with Star Portal as a piece of it, then M$ will be behind the power curve and struggling to catch up with a "Windows DNA" FUDware that they haven't even defined yet, let alone found partners to integrate with hardware. That will pave the way for ISP's to pick up something that already exists, which they can have ready as (or before) bandwidth arrives at the home in the next 18 months. In the meantime Star Portal can be generating revenue and brand awareness for SUNW.

A theory yes, but a reasonably probable one.
