Just shorted 5000 shares at $26.25 for 1 week until 9/30/99 while keeping my long position. Main reasons. 1. Portfolio managers who may want to add G* shares will wait until the new Q499, mid-10/99 service start and Telecom '99 press releases pumping G. 2. G stock price has declined in the face of good news, i.e., VOD/Bell Atlantic partnership, early 9/99 analyst conference, successful launch, analyst buy/reit buy recs. Brokerages and analysts have already moved clients into G* for the time being. 3. Slower initial roll-out than anticipated. Again, portfolio managers will delay their G* purchases. 4. G* has used up its press releases until the 10/10/99 Telecom '99 conference. 5. Potential news on Iridium and ICO restructuring plans may impact G* stock price. 6. General market uncertainty, early warnings season in late 9/99 and fears of 10/5 FOMC rate hike. Comments on any of the above items appreciated.
