I don't think that that is exactly true.

I read about this translation problem with Java in the book, "The plot to get Bill Gates", and that is my source. I don't know enough about it to take it further. The way it was presented, it sounded rational.

I do know that the motive with Sun and Oracle is to "beat Bill", rather than the product itself. This is a religion with the programmers at both companies, and the two top guys. It is not the way to run a business, IMO. A good example of how this runs into trouble is the "net computer" from Ellison, which has failed.
