I don't think the horizontal office app will remain the lone occupant of center stage. Most of what a business does, from payroll to performance appraisals to customer information to manufacturing and inventory control, contracts, field organization data, etc. etc. in addition to the more mundane accounting things will end up on the web (intranet) in the form of specialized web applications, not in the form of a bunch of Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. Some IT guys may resist change, but not for long. The Conventional Wisdom is overturned not by better ideas, but by circumstances for which it can no longer account. The Conventional Wisdom is Word and Excel documents on fat clients having a stranglehold on the desktop. The overturning circumstance is the migration of most corporate information to an inter- or intra-net structure and migration of applications to exploit that structure. Regards, --QS
