That is strange.Reminds me of the 80s, when management consultants who didn't know squat would come in to companies all over the country to advise them to restructure. If the company had a centralized structure, they would trot out their decentralization bureaucratic model, customize it for that company, and tell them that that would work best. If the company was decentralized, they would do the same with their centralization model. This happened every two or three years (hey, consultants have to eat too, dont they?!). And upper managements who didn't know squat themselves would actually follow their advice. I went through at least 4 of those things in about 9 years between '83 and '92.

Investment bankers do it now. You should merge with that other guy. Two years later, come back, and say, hey, merger not working out? Bet you'll be able to offer better perks and stock options as focussed independent entities, let's demerge (is that a word?). Hey, investment bankers have some heavy lifestyles to support, don't they?
