I agree. If anything, I think many a cross-hairs will be focused upon MSFT going forward in an effort to discern any systematic pattern to influence the market valuation of high-tech stocks.

If I were a MSFT shareholder, I'd dump the stock for number of reasons:

(1) an expressed intent by top management to deflate the price of the stock;

(2) an implied concession that it cannot compete with new, innovative & growing companies because of an inability to develop competitive leading edge products from within its own ranks;

(3) an anti-competitive corporate culture that can no longer dominate its markets & that appears incapable of any degree of rehabilitation ; and

(4) an ill-defined corporate strategy that, IMHO, is rudderless, as computing has moved from the desktop & now establishes a ubiquitous foothold across the Internet.
