A poster on another thread set forth the opinion that Ballmer was just a sideshow. The main trigger was US Treas. Sec. Summers telling the world that Japan was on its own in stimulating its domestic economy and should use all available tools. He thought that Summers was giving a backhanded slap at the BOJs decision not to inject additional yen into the Japan banking system. He claims that the speech immediately impacted the currency market and it spilled over into stocks.
