Gary, what makes you think CSCO, or any company in this fast paced technotronic world is invincible. MSFT and INTC, or using the rubric Wintel, has plenty of competition looming not too far in their future. In the real world of business the cliche,"my enemy's enemy is my friend," has begun to manifest itself, just look at what is happening, IBM, SUNW, ORCL, AOL and many other global companies are all beginning to challenge the Wintel monopoly, and I am beginning to see the results manifest themselves almost every where. The PC world is going through a major transition, it is becoming more biased toward a Net-centric world and new technologies associated with this and other emerging markets will have profound effects on the technology sector. This in turn could eventually make the Wintel monopoly a thing of the past, if you don't believe me time will make you a believer. That is why I think, 3Com is positioned fundamentally better than most mid-cap companies to take advantage of many emerging markets in networking, wireless and broadband. All they need to do is focus their resources in the right direction.
Now educate us on this thread and tell us what Cisco possesses that entitles it to a PE of 120, and a market cap of 2,200% more than that of 3Com. If you can convince me on these questions I will also become an apostate.
