The main site, which I expect you found, is:

news.bbc.co.uk

Today's news is predictably grim.

Interesting that the Indonesian analysts are painting it as a conflict between pro-independence and anti-independence factions of Timorese, rather than as a, Indonesian-Timorese conflict. Gives some hint of what position the government will be taking when things get out of hand.

I shudder at the naivete of those who think that since Indonesia has consented to the presence of the intervention force, they have given in and everything will be ok now. The Indonesians consented under enormous pressure; they will see it as a deal made under duress and thus no deal at all. They may give vocal assent to every demand, but behind the scenes they will do everything in their power to do sabotage independence.

An appropriate quote, from Kipling:

Oh it is not good for the Christian's health
To hustle the Asian brown.
For the Asian smiles
And the Christian riles
And it weareth the Christian down.

And at the end of the fight is a tombstone white
With the name of the late deceased.
And the epitaph drear
A fool lies here
Who tried to hustle the east.
