Doug,

"Scandisk: 1.Start button 2. Programs 3.Accessories 4. System Tools 5.Scandisk 6. Check off "thorough" 7. Check off "automatically fix errors" 8. Click start.

Disk defragmenter: 1. Same sequence as one through four above. 2. Select "Disk Defragmenter 3. Select drive that you want to defragment which would usually be the "C" drive. If you also have a D drive and use it defrag that one. If you're not sure do it anyway. It won't hurt anything.

Clear memory cache: 1. If you're using Netscape: 1. Click on "Edit" 2. Preferences 3. Double click advanced 4. Click cache 5. Click "Clear memory cache and "Clear disk cache" one at a time. and click on OK for each warning that comes up."

I'm running through the Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter routines and thank you very much for the needed guidance!

A couple more questions for you:

1. I'm running IE5. Is clearing "Temporary Internet Files" the same as clearing memory cache?

2. I've read some posters on the thread talking about Norton Utilities or Norton ___2000. Is there anything incremental that these programs do?

Again, thanks for your help for a computer illiterate SI member.

Regards,

Sue
